Just Announced @ RHL

BSM brings in another great show of locals with Holy Hell heading the bill on January 8th. They bring a rock solid tribute to the music of Ronnie James Dio. You may remember this cat from Dio and Black Sabbath. Also thank you to my faithful office loft mate, Laura for re-ringing that memory bell. Enjoy the sounds and enjoy the rounds since we’ve got local show drink specials all night: $3 Buds and Bud Lights, $3 Rails and $2 Natural Lights.

I love saying "Balty." It resonates.

Next up is your first ever Balt Country Festival on January 16. We’ve compiled a classic afternoon festival bill of Baltimore’s best local alty, folky, balty performers round these parts. Caleb Stine, June StarArty Hill, Van Meter, a writers in the round session and more! Come out for classic Caleb Stine tunes, the rhytmic songwriting of Arty Hill and the raw folk-rock of June Star. This will be a nice kick off for continuing to nurture this scene in Baltimore in a big way.

We are happy to re-announce 2U for February 5th. Score! Totally miffed we had to postpone the first show but no worries! We are ready to wrangle those Fed-Ex field memories for ya, minus the War of the Worlds-esqe claw stage. (p.s. if you havent seen the 1953 version of War of the Worlds by Bryon Haskin then make it happen. Do it.)

Pirate Rob’s Birthday Bash comes to RHL with his all-star line-up featuring Ballyhoo, Pasadena, Hotbox, Bond and Bentley, The Grilled Lincolns (my personal fav!) and 86 The Effort. Drink specials all night because, come on… you know these boys!grilledlincolns

Classic party night with Umphrey’s McGee on February 14, but please be responsible! The security staff does not like throwing you out, trust! Goes on sale this Saturday, 12/12 at noon. Get clicker ready.

And they don't like seeing you get thrown out.

Oh, Oh. Now this is real and it’s fan-freaking-tastic! Super Diamond hits us up on March 6th and you’ll be spitting pink glitter for weeks. Get on the band wagon cause this diddy sells out all over the place.

It's almost like a mirage...

Lastly and very genuinely, this next multi-instrumental group is something that has gotten all of us buzzing a bit in our little loft. We booked The Big Pink fresh off their Spin and NME rankings and they are gettin kinda viral. Rollingstones is tweeting about them as well.

Truely interesting... and that's not me being all tongue and cheek as usual.

After playing with acts like Muse and TV On The Radio they are set to start blazing their own trails with tracks like “Dominos” and “Velvet.” They recall the likes of Glasvegas, Florence and the Machine, The Antlers, maybe even some Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while strking chords all their own. Check out Chesters blog in the right column for more info on them.

Alright, peace out kids!

Just Announced @ RHL…Pow! Bilal!

Heya!

I like to draw correlations between the artists we are announcing and others you may be familiar with but I’ve never had one artist remind me of so many artists as Bilal, who will be coming to the RHL Wednesday, December 16.

bilalforweb

Bilal! It's fun to say. Try in a couple different accents.

He has worked with everyone under the urban, hip hop, R&B, funk, soul sun.  I’m sure it’s cause for some influential turn-over. I literally made a list of about 17 relations to other artists, not just the ones he has worked with. Kinda like the metaphorical form of the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.  I thought it would be more fun this week to have you tell me who he reminds you of from the vocals to the instrumentation, to the overall style? Here are the bits to judge from (or find your own).

The Legwarmers get down in the height of the holiday season on Friday, December 18th.  Take a break from shopping, cooking, playing nice, fake smiling, over-eating and cut a mean rug to regain your sanity.  Keep in mind that freedom, expression and what some deem as ”strange” or outlandish behavior are a sure sign of a freebird so come flap your wings and tail feathers with us! Oh, and have drink!

No more Turkey! No More Turkey!

Next up is a local doo dad. Hotbox plays the room on December 26th.  We get them right off their local residency at the 8×10.  Oh, and right after Christnas.  Here’s your chance to wear out the new digs ya got from ma and pa. Of Broken and Jauyu open up the night.  As a fan of Staind, I’m definitely feeling Of Broken.Their song ”Sometimes” reminds me of “Everything Changes” by Staind or something from old school Third Eye Blind or new-ish school Dashboard Confessional.  Really nice balance between ballads and some harder yet composed stuff.

Inhaling optional.

Now, welcome to tribute land! We’ve got Frontiers: A Tribute to Journey up first on Saturday, January 9th.  You know you love singing along with the classics when you’re tipsy (errhh. wasted.) in a bar but even better is screaming to the classics played live. With 18 top 40 Billboard singles from “Don’t Stop Believing” to “Faithfully,” you’ve got yourself plenty of songs to choose from, in other words plenty of lyrics to F up.

Bet they climbed Stonehenge. There used to be a lot more of those pillars standing up. Metal say whoops.

Your second helping is on Friday, January 22nd with Tragedy: All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees. Yes.  It’s real!  If nothing else just watch the video below. It’s gonna be ridiculous. I almost don’t remember what the Bee Gees sounded like before metal. Sshhh…
