Rams Head Love Bird Contest

lovebirds_poster_withelementsweb

“He rocks in the tree tops all day long. Hoppin’ and a-boppin’ and singing his song. All the little birdies on West Street. Love to hear the robin go tweet tweet tweet”….The Rams Head Group is welcoming the month of February with the hopes of finding the 2010 ‘Rams Head Love Bird couple’.

Did you meet your honey at Rams Head? Was it sweaty-palmed first date by the fire place or cheering on your favorite team together over wings and brews that made you realize that there would never be another? Tell us why you should be the Rams Head ‘Love Birds’.

We want your story! Having submitted your story via email to Nparsons@ramsheadtavern.com you will be automatically entered to win a $50 Rams Head Gift Certificate and a pair of tickets to see a show of your choice at the intimate Rams Head On Stage in downtown Annapolis.

All Love Birds must submit their stories, 150 words or less along with a photo of the couple, by 9am on Sunday, February 7th. The Rams Head team will pick 10 finalists who will then be posted to our blog. The winning ‘Love Birds’ will be announced and posted to our Blog on Friday, February 12th @ 9am, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

A Rams Head team of judges will review the submissions and evaluate the candidates on the following criteria:

->The level of passion the individual expresses for his or her love
->The most interesting story about your date
->Why you and your “Love Bird” should be the 2010 Rams Head Love Bird Couple
->Why you and your “Love Bird” picked Rams Head Restaurant for your date
->Photo of couple

But, don’t worry…throughout the duration of the contest, we will be posting stories on our Twitter and Facebook streams, letting the friends, fans and patrons interact with the contest.

Help us choose The Rams Head’s Couple by entering your love stories or spreading the “Love Bird” seed.

Happy Hour Prices when the Temp Dips!

How much do you love beer? Okay okay…. pipe down! How much do you like cheap beer? Whoa whoa whoa! Everyone… please…. take your seats.  There’s probably a few available on the patio… where we’ll be serving our happy hour specials every time the temperature dips below 32 degrees!

Polar Bear Club: “How the bold ‘bear’ the cold”

Polar Bear Club

That’s right friends! $2.50 Drafts, House Wines and Rail Drinks in the Beer Garden everytime Annapolis freezes. Beginning today, January 27th, combat the cold by warming your bones with cheap brews and heat lamps in the Rams Head Tavern’s Beer Garden. Keep your peepers open for our Arctic Alert light. Our managment and staff will be watching the thermometer ever so closely. Every time that that mercury dips to 32 degrees or below, the Arctic Alert will be lit and happy hour prices will be honored on the patio until it warms… or until the doors close… which ever comes first.

Yeah, winter stinks and can’t end soon enough. But until it does we’ll just have to grin and “bear” it (sorry, I couldn’t help myself) by running the Polar Bear Club promotion from open to close for the rest of the season. Cool? (sorry, again… couldn’t help it)

90’s One Hit Wonder: The Freshmen

There’s something about a ‘one hit wonder’ jingle; the lyrics & melody seem to have an infectious way of occupying your mindless thoughts for hours, days and sometimes if your (un)lucky, weeks.  Recently our office was infected with the Circus melody.  Yes, the under the big top kind that you only remember when you were 5 years old.  It haunted us for at least a week…..  And probably after today, it’s back for more.

I digress.

It was the year of 1996 that I want to reflect on today. That precious time in between my high school and college days… filled with being carefree of the world around us and filled with visions of promise and the wonderful unknown of the future.  It was during that time that an infectious melody of a band known as The Verve Pipe took over the radio airwaves.  The name of the band, I must admit, nearly 15 years later had escaped me… but the song, when refreshed for my memory, certainly took me back.

The first line, sung with such deep emotion, spoke so eloquently to my young generation as we began to step out into the world:

When I was young I knew everything…

Perhaps somehow it reminded us that even with our high school diploma in hand and acceptance letter for college tacked onto our refrigerator, that the track we were on was going to be filled with more knowledge.  Perhaps the words told us that there were still plenty of lessons to be learned, that our parents did still know a thing or two.   I seriously  doubt many of us took the time to learn what the song really meant, or what exactly the band was so guilt stricken over to write such a heart-heavy song.  But the words, they seemed to spin in and out of the teenagers ears and voices as the verses continued on in The Freshmen:

For the life of me, I cannot remember
What made us think that we were wise and we’d never compromise
For the life of me, I cannot believe we’d ever die for these sins
We were merely freshme
n

Freshmen.  That word, in and of itself, carried so much weight.  The mistakes that are made when you are so impressionable. At one time or another we were all about to relate to what being “The Freshmen” was; and perhaps that was enough strength to carry this song to the top of the charts that year.  But for many, I am sure, the song did speak to the sadness of suicide and the gut wrenching reflection of signs and opportunities missed.  Regardless of the meaning, the title or the words, this song hit the charts.

But, it is important to note that since 1996, this band has continued to evolve, adding three more studio albums to their collection [The Verve Pipe (1999) |Underneath (2001) Family Album (2009)] and sales of more than three million worldwide.  They have a reputation for spectacular live performances, which will certainly be the case when they visit Rams Head On Stage on February 22nd, when they promise to perform both old favorites as well as music from their new album.

Often compared to Better Than Ezra, Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots and perhaps a hint of Bruce Hornsby, I am certain The Verve Pipe’s first appearance at Rams Head On Stage will be full of new memories made as well as reflection of days of years past.
