Snow Patrol goes acoustic at Rams Head On Stage!

WRNR presented another Private Artist Showcase this past Saturday with Snow Patrol at Rams Head On Stage. They are a popular alternative rock band, with members from Northern Ireland and Scotland. At the private artist showcase they left most of the band members at the hotel. Only the singer Gary Lightbody and lead guitarist/ backing vocalist, Nathan Connolly performed an acoustic set.
Originally formed in late 1994 as “Shrug”. In 1995, they changed their name to Polar Bear to avoid issues with an American band that was also named Shrug. The band again renamed, this time to Snow Patrol because of a naming conflict with another band of the same name fronted by Jane’s Addiction’s ex-bassist Eric Avery. The band’s first three records were commercially unsuccessful and were released by independent labels. When the band moved to a major record label Polydor Records, they released their 2003 album Final Straw. This was the first time the band achieved significant commercial sales, following it up with international success in 2006 when Eyes Open sold 4.7 million copies worldwide. The songs “Run”, “Chasing Cars” and “Signal Fire” are among the band’s biggest hits.
From my point of view, a music snob. I enjoyed their performance. I’m not a huge snow patrol fan. But, here and there you will see me rocking out to “Chasing Cars”. I heard the song during an emotional scene of the second season finale of the television show Grey’s Anatomy. (Yes, one of my favorite shows) The singer Gary was full of jokes throughout his performance. There was a guy sitting in the front row, his cell phone started to ring. Gary stops playing, tells the crowd,” it’s ok if your cell phone rings only if it plays in a C note”. Everyone starts to laugh.
I was amazed by Gary’s voice, lyrics and sense of humor. And, became more of fan after their show. Thanks to WRNR for bringing Snow Patrol to Rams Head. Hopefully, I will see them again soon!
