Rachael Yamagata

This girl has it.  One of this generation’s rising star singer-songwriters, she is building a foundation for legend status…

“Praised by critics for her intimately confessional songwriting and arrangements, Rachael began to appear on the public’s radar in 2005 when songs from Happenstance and her self-titled debut EP, including “Be Be Your Love,” “Collide,” “Paper Doll,” and “ Meet Me By The Water,” as well as a cover of “I Wish You Love,” turned up in such films as Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, In Her Shoes, Trust The Man, Bella, and Prime. They have also been heard in many television shows, including How I Met Your Mother, Nip/Tuck, One Tree Hill, Brothers & Sisters, ER, and The O.C., on which she made a guest performance. Additionally the single “Worn Me Down” was a Top 5 Hit at AAA Radio.”

Rachael brings her seductive sound to the Rams Head On Stage on March 14 with Birdie Busch.

Check her out here on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

Poster Peek.

In the Spring 2009 semester Krista Chester, graphic designer at Rams Head Live contacted Bernard J Canniffe, Graphic Design Co-Chair at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) to have students develop promotional posters for a music event. Krista identified Thievery Corporation as the band to promote and the MICA Sophomore students spent five weeks producing promotional posters, Tee Shirts, Mugs and Hats.

Take a look. Find us on facebook by searching ‘Rams Head Live’. Take a peek at the students’ posters, and leave a comment about your favorite one.

Thanks to everyone who participated – we look forward  to working with Baltimore’s young and talented again in the future.

Big Score for Slumdog.

Slumdog Millionare took home 8 golden statuettes last night, including the coveted Best Picture and Best Director awards. But let’s note that Slumdog’s score composer, A.R. Rahman, also took home two awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. In his audible translation of this rags-to-riches romance, Rahman combines the romanticism of a fingerpicked guitar, Bollywood rythms, and modern electronica. It is easy to see why A.R. Rahman’s music is wildly popular across the globe.

For those of you who like:
Thievery Corporation
Tricky
Disco Biscuits

Richard Marx will be ‘Right Here Waiting’…

FOR YOU!! Yes, YOU…for an acoustic evening of all those sweet love tunes we used to sing along to back in the day. (PS – a little insider tid bit…Richard and I had a bit of a thing going back in the 80’s. Sure, I was 10 years old running around in my Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt and he didn’t know I existed. But still.)

Richard Marx joins Matt Scannell of Vertical Horizon for “An Acoustic Evening of Hits” on March 8th at Rams Head On Stage

So, I’ve prepared a little Richard Marx teaser to whet your appetites. I threw in a little Matt Scannell too, just for good measure…

A breath of fresh air.

Promotional materials – we see A LOT of it. Everything from the scratched and burned group shot of Metal’s most gruesome chart-slayers to the soft, angelic, and ever-so-lightly glittered head shots of folk-pop’s purtiest songbirds. These images and promotional materials are designed to communicate sound via a visual platform, reminding you why they rock or illustrating why you should be listening if you aren’t already.

My new favorite merch definitely belongs to Breathe Carolina. This Denver based Electro-Pop duo has brilliantly marketed their sound through neon hues, metallic screens, unicorns, panthers, and hot pants.

The visual equivalent to 80’s disco? Metallic filigree.

The optical translation of Dance Screamo? A skull on an ice cream cone. Duh.

The merch booth is always worth checking out at any show. Not only do these t-shirts, panties, wristbands and stickers communicate a band’s brand and style, but hopefully they’re able to to spark a conversation about the experience of their live shows.

Your friend: “Hey, You! Great shirt – where’d you get it?”

You: “Oh, you mean my Breathe Carolina galactic panther with electric eyes t-shirt? I got it at the TAKE ACTION TOUR show at Rams Head Live back in February…. February 20th to be exact.”

Your friend: “Sounds out of this world!”

You: “It was stellar.”

With a wide range of styles and fresh ideas that are sure to please, Breathe Carolina’s merch is a breath of fresh air.  But, don’t take our word for it – see for yourself! Check out a full line of the band’s merch at merchnow.com or by visiting myspace.com/breathecarolina.
